Old School Close, Merthyr Tydfil

Specialist examination of a ceramic items recovered from a site associated with Cyfarthfa ironworks identified sixteen fragments from a Bessemer converter and three from the nozzle system of a steel ladle. All the items derived from equipment installed during the 1878-1882 conversion of the works into a steelworks.

Bases for dismantled wireless masts used by a nearby RAF Radio Station during World War ll were investigated during evaluation trenching at Imble Lane, Pembroke Dock, prior to the development of the area for housing. Metal detecting and geophysical surveys were carried out on the site of the battle of Pilleth, 1402, for the Royal Commission (RCAHMW). Horse equipment contemporary with the battle and a fine Roman fibula brooch were recovered.

Cyfarthfa Leat and Tramway

A program of detailed surveying, monitoring and investigation of the Gurnos Quarry Leat and Tramway, Cyfarthfa, a nationally important historic monument, was carried out for Merthyr Tydfil Council in advance of, and during, restoration works at the site.
