AW Archaeologists worked on a Cadw funded project at Llanmelin Hilfort near Caerwent. The survey and targeted excavation work were supervised for Cadw as part of a programme of community engagement, with volunteers from local societies and the MOD’s Operation Nightingale.

Imble Lane, Pembroke Dock

Bases for dismantled wireless masts used by a nearby RAF Radio Station during World War ll were investigated during evaluation trenching at Imble Lane, Pembroke Dock, prior to the development of the area for housing. Previous work at the site included a Desk-based Assessment and a Geophysical Survey.

Pilleth, Powys

Metal detecting and geophysical surveys were carried out on the site of the battle of Pilleth, 1402, for the Royal Commission (RCAHMW). Horse equipment contemporary with the battle and a fine Roman fibula brooch were recovered.

Swansea Castle, Swansea (open day)

An ‘open weekend’ was arranged in conjunction with excavations carried out on behalf of Swansea Council within the castle compound. Archaeology Wales staff gave organised tours of the site, giving members of the public a chance to see the excavation and examine some of the artefacts recovered.
