Susan Stratton

BA (Hons) MA PhD, Supervisor

Susan joined the Archaeology Wales team in 2016. She is a supervisor based in the Caerphilly office. Since joining AW she has mainly worked in the field on our large projects: Hartridge Farm, Newport, and EAOne, Suffolk. On EAOne she has supervised teams on large complex sites, run a number of smaller sites, and acted as Project Officer on large multiphase sites with teams of up to 60 archaeologists in collaboration with other archaeological companies. She also carries out Watching Briefs, and her desk-based activities include report writing, WSIs and DBAs.

Susan's first commercial experience was as a volunteer in 2003. She gained a BA in Archaeology from the University of Bristol in 2007, after which she returned to commercial archaeology. In 2009 she returned to university to study a MA in the European Neolithic at Cardiff University, where she stayed to do a PhD in the burial practices of Neolithic and Copper Age communities of south-east Europe. Susan has supervised on academic and student training excavations in the UK and abroad, including the Stonehenge Riverside Project and Cardiff University excavations in Serbia and Montenegro.
